The Board of Education recently passed a motion 4-3 to draft a resolution to send to lawmakers to exempt Mineral Point Schools from the possession of a firearm in a school zone or modify the law to allow a physically and mentally fit and trained designee identified by the Superintendent of Schools and approved by the Board of Education to possess firearms in schools. The board is currently seeking clarification from law makers regarding the ability to legally possess firearms in vehicles parked on school grounds and/or within 1,000 feet. If not already permitted by law, the board would seek a resolution for relief on this matter as well.
The draft language in this resolution will be on the agenda for a board vote at the January 11 meeting.
The board is interested in community feedback. Contact info for the board can be found here: https://mineralpointschools.org/mpsd/staff/members/
