The Mineral Point Kiwanis Club honored its September Students of the Month at its meeting Tuesday, September 15.
The students, who are members of the Senior class, are selected for this honor through a voting process by teachers at the high school, and their biographies are written by themselves.
These are the first Students of the Month for the 2026-27 school year.
Anthony Buleje Cadena
Anthony Buleje Cadena is the oldest child of Denisa Anderson and the stepson of Christopher Anderson. He has a younger sister in Kindergarten, Sophia, and a younger brother in 6th Grade, Daniel, both of whom attend the Mineral Point Unified School District. Anthony is an immigrant, as he was not born in the United States. His biological parents are both Peruvian, and he was raised there. However, he was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2008 and moved to Mineral Point at the age of seven.
Over the years, Anthony has developed a spark for academics through a long, arduous journey. In high school, this was originally substantiated by receiving the Freshman Student of the Year Award. His engagement in the classroom, and in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) specifically, is reflected by being named to the High Honor Roll every semester and taking courses outside the typical high school curriculum, such as Partial Differential Equations, Physics II, and more. In his high school, he is involved in various activities: Captain & Founder of MP/DHS Robotics Team, President of Future Business Leaders of America Club, Captain of Math Team, Track & Field, and more. He is very passionate about Robotics and FBLA, serving for both on the state level.
However, Anthony also enjoys many activities outside of school, and it’s been a big part of his life. He was recently accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) program MITES Semester, where only 243 students out of 5700 applicants are selected, and he participated in courses, including Math Logic and Science Writing courses. Consequently, he is now a part of other programs at MIT, Yale, Columbia, and more. Due to his passion for math, he has also participated in Undergraduate Math Research on quintic polynomials, using the Gauss-Lucas Theorem, at UW-Platteville. Furthermore, he has also worked jobs, saving up for college as an ACT/SAT tutor, Walmart Associate, and summer worker at Hook’s Cheese Company.
In his free time, he enjoys watching shows, running, and traveling. He will have seen three out of seven of the Wonders of the World before turning 18. Additionally, he believes it’s important to understand the world around us in order to gain more perspectives and culture, and he encourages students around him to do the same. After high school, Anthony plans on attending a four-year university to major in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with a possible minor in Math.
Anthony would like to congratulate his classmate, Johnny, for being named September’s Student of the Month. He believes this is very fitting of his hard work and dedication to his passions, such as cross country and track, where he excels and leads. He is also happy to share this moment with him, as he did when they both received the Freshman Student of the Year Award.
“Anthony is truly the total package when it comes to intelligence, drive, and leadership. He approaches everything he does with a level of organization and dedication that is impressive to see. Even while balancing a demanding college course load, Anthony stays focused, works hard, and consistently gives his best effort. He never settles for doing just enough—he is always looking for ways to challenge himself and grow. Anthony’s leadership can be seen in so many areas of our school. Whether he is serving as President of FBLA, taking on new responsibilities, or starting our school’s robotics club, he is always willing to step up and make things happen. What I appreciate most about Anthony, though, is the way he brings others along with him. He encourages those around him to work harder, set higher goals, and believe in what they are capable of accomplishing. Anthony, you are an incredible student and an even better person. I have no doubt that you will accomplish whatever you set your mind to, and I am so proud of everything you have already achieved. “Anthony has always demonstrated such a high level of academic curiosity and integrity. Since his Freshman year, when he took on the task of taking an Advanced Placement foreign language course on his own, I have seen him put so much effort into making sure he was preparing his work to the best of his ability. He had no problem reaching out for advice on how to prepare for his exam, which could be considered a daunting task for someone so early on in their high school career. Anthony also shows so much initiative. He has done well while participating in extracurriculars here at Mineral Point, while also helping to create new opportunities for our students (such as our robotics club). Johnathon Robinson
Johnathon Robinson is the son of Mike and Amy Robinson and lives on his family’s 325-acre farm outside of Mineral Point. He has three older siblings: Joey, who works at JX Peterbilt, and Annie and Ellie, who are both attending South Dakota State University and studying animal science. All three of his siblings graduated from Mineral Point High School.
Throughout his high school career, Johnathon has been highly involved in a variety of activities at Mineral Point High School. He has served as an FFA officer, previously serving as Treasurer and currently serving as President of the chapter for the past two years. Recently, he submitted a state-winning FFA proficiency application to the national level. He is also a member of the state-winning FFA Livestock Judging Team that will be headed to nationals at the end of October.
In addition to FFA, Johnathon has been involved in Student Council for all four years of high school. He is also a member of SkillsUSA, Math Team, and the National Honor Society. Johnathon takes his education seriously and is dedicated to doing well in all of his classes. He currently holds a 4.0 unweighted GPA and has been named to the High Honor Roll every semester of his high school career. He was also named Freshman Student of the Year during his Freshman year and has received Academic All-State recognition for his achievements in both the classroom and athletics.
Johnathon has always enjoyed participating in athletics and is a member of the cross country, wrestling, and track teams at Mineral Point. In cross country, he is a three-time state qualifier. He has qualified twice as part of a team, including one team that placed third in the state at the WIAA Division 2 State Championship. Last year, he qualified for state individually and placed 12th overall, narrowly missing a top-10 finish and a spot on the podium. He hopes to qualify for state again this year and earn a place on the podium.
In track, Johnathon has qualified for the WIAA State Meet twice. His first appearance was as part of the 4×800-meter relay team, which placed 5th at the state meet. This past June, he qualified individually for the state meet in the 3,200-meter run where he placed 14th overall.
Johnathon has also been involved in wrestling. He has competed at the Team WIAA State Tournament twice. In 2025, he was a member of Mineral Point’s state championship wrestling team. In 2026, he was again part of the team that qualified for the state tournament.
When he is not participating in school activities or sports, Johnathon enjoys showing animals from his family’s farm at livestock shows across the country. He also raises and sells Beagle puppies to families throughout the Midwest. During the summer, Johnathon works on his family’s farm and at Military Ridge Veterinary Clinic as a veterinary technician assistant.
After high school, Johnathon plans to attend a four-year university and study exercise and sports science or kinesiology with an emphasis in pre-physical therapy. He then plans to continue his education and earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. While attending college, he hopes to continue his athletic career by competing in cross-country and track at the collegiate level.
Johnathon would like to congratulate his friend and classmate, Anthony, on also being named a Kiwanis Student of the Month for the month of September. He would also like to thank all of his teachers for supporting him throughout his education and helping him whenever he needs assistance. He would like to extend a special thank-you to all of the coaches who have worked with him over the years and taught him the values of hard work and determination.
Finally, Johnathon would like to thank the Kiwanis Club for organizing this luncheon and recognizing the accomplishments of local students. Most importantly, he would like to give a special thank-you to his parents and siblings for all of the support and encouragement they provide him each and every day.

It recognizes your academics, service to community, involvement in extra curricular activities, involvement in sports, and your ability to work with classmates and teachers. I have gotten to be a part of your experience at Mineral Point Schools, as your teacher, FFA advisor, and coach. You are always willing to help out with anything and help others in the class be successful. You are a positive role model for others. You are always reaching for excellence in your classroom work and it shows in your successful academics. Your success in the classroom, running, and the FFA is amazing. Being a state qualifier in cross country and track, as well as winning a team state title in wrestling, shows how your dedication and hard work pay off. Being a state winner and finalist in several FFA events, and being a national qualifier in FFA livestock judging, is a testament to your dedication. Your leadership skills show in the FFA by being an officer for the past three years and organizing many successful FFA events. You are a leader for your class by being a class officer for the past four years. You have shown your leadership skills also in your athletics by leading your cross country, track, and wrestling teams as a captain. Your work ethic in and out of school is second to none with many long hours put in to reach your goals. Johnny, I came across this quote by Babe Ruth that I think fits you. ‘It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.’ This statement is so true of you as I have seen what others have not in the hard work you put in to be successful in the classroom, FFA, and athletics. I know that it has not come easy for you, and that when you face a setback, you don’t give up. Continue to carry that attitude with you in the next steps of your life and you will be successful in whatever you do.
