Hundreds of music students from numerous area schools will participate in a Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) sanctioned Solo & Ensemble Music Festival hosted by Mineral Point Saturday, March 7.
During the festival, which is free and open to the public, students will perform vocal and instrumental solos, duets, trios, and small ensembles before an adjudicator.
The festival at Mineral Point will draw students from Mineral Point Middle School, Mineral Point High School, Darlington Middle School, Darlington High School, Cuba City Middle School, Southwestern Middle School, and Southwestern High School.
The primary purposes of WSMA music festivals are to:
-Establish standards of quality for music literature.
-Motivate students to prepare and perform to the best of their abilities.
-Improve students%u2019 understanding of music literature and music concepts.
-Support improvement of school music programs through individual and group achievement.
-Encourage exploration of diverse musical styles and ensemble combinations.
