The Mineral Point Kiwanis Club honored its September Students of the Month at its meeting Tuesday, September 16.

The students, who are members of the Senior class, are selected for this honor through a voting process by staff at the high school, and their biographies are written by themselves.

These are the first Students of the Month for the 2025-26 school year.

Kalea Biddick

Kalea Biddick is the eldest child of Ben and Cara Biddick. She has one younger sister, Catherine, who is currently attending Mineral Point High School as a Freshman. Kalea was born in Madison in 2007. Her family lived in New Glarus and Janesville before moving to Mineral Point where Kalea has been attending school since the 4th Grade.

Kalea has served on the Student Council as a Class Officer, Class President, and Student Body President, and is a current member of the National Honor Society. She has a tenacious passion for learning, and she will be receiving an Associate’s Degree of Arts and Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in addition to her high school diploma this spring. Kalea was a Badger Precollege Summer Scholar in 2024 and was honored to have been named Mineral Point’s Best All-Around Student her Freshman and Junior years. Kalea also had the privilege of being named Prom Emcee her Junior year and is a Homecoming Queen candidate this year.

In terms of extracurricular activities, Kalea has served as an officer and President in Key Club, Future Business Leaders of America, and Spanish Club, and been a part of Sources of Strength, Forensics, Math Team, Mock Trial, and Pointer Media. Further, Kalea founded and served as President of the Environmental Wellness Club (EWC), and acted as Business Manager of the Spring Play. She has additionally served on the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District Board of Key Club for three consecutive years and participated in a masterclass for the Key Club Global Leadership Certificate. Within FBLA, Kalea placed top ten at the National Leadership Conference in 2024, placed three times at the state level, and earned multiple Business Achievement Awards. She also plays the piano and is a football cheerleader this year.

Motivated by serving others, Kalea has accumulated just under 200 hours of community service throughout her time in high school, largely through her Key Club involvement and three years volunteering at Upland Hills Health. For these efforts, she has earned three community service awards sponsored by The United Nations Association-USA.

Outside of school, extracurriculars, and volunteering, Kalea worked as a hostess for two years and is now working as a barista and a social media content manager. In her free time, she loves to travel and spend time with her family, friends, and pets.

After high school, Kalea plans to attend a four-year university to study International Relations, Economics, and Spanish, as well as study abroad. Following that, she hopes to join the Peace Corps and work in foreign service. Kalea’s overarching goal is to do all she can to enrich the lives of those around her.

Kalea cannot express how grateful she is for her family, friends, and the Mineral Point Unified School District for their endless support of her endeavors. She would like to thank her parents for being the best role models she could’ve asked for. Her dad has been an unwavering source of warmth and a cornerstone of her personal and professional growth, and her mom has always put morality into action and is the reason Kalea aims to treat everyone with kindness. She is thankful for her sister because she has always kept Kalea balanced and been by her side when she needed it. Lastly, Kalea is deeply appreciative of all the opportunities that Mineral Point High School has provided. From being encouraged by staff members like Mr. Matt Austin, Mrs. Erika Brunson, and her teachers, to having access to a wide array of extracurricular organizations and their advisors, to being empowered to take dual enrollment courses, Kalea owes her wonderful high school experience to those who made it possible.

Kalea would like to congratulate Addie Burris on being named September’s Student of the Month. She is happy to be able to share this moment with Addie, who Kalea knows to be incredibly hard-working, bright, and amiable. Finally, she would like to thank Mineral Point Kiwanis for their continued support of her Key Club journey and organization of this luncheon.

“Although I don’t know Kalea Biddick all that well, I’d like to congratulate her on becoming Student of the Month. I recall seeing Kalea at the school library with her nose in a good book. She was a new student and I said hello. Friendly, but shy, is how I would explain her demeanor. Kalea, I hope you have a successful Senior year and wish you the best in the future!” ~ Mrs. Jill McGuire, Kindergarten Teacher

“Kalea is an outstanding leader amongst her peers.  She has presented to the School Board on student initiatives and has always been received with a great deal of respect.  I do not doubt that she will one day be leading all of us in a positive direction.” ~ Mr. Mitch Wainwright, Superintendent

“Congratulations on being named Student of the Month! While I’ve never had the privilege of being your teacher, I want to thank you for the positivity you bring to our school and community. Your bright smile, caring heart, and welcoming spirit have not gone unnoticed. You are a wonderful leader who makes sure everyone feels included. Mineral Point is lucky to have you, and I’m excited to see all that you will accomplish in the future. Keep shining and spreading joy–your future is truly bright!” ~ Mrs. Morgan Burris, District Special Education Teacher

“It has been such a pleasure getting to know you as you have navigated your way through high school. Your commitment to making things happen, such as the Earth Wise Club, that benefit our school and community, does not go unnoticed. Your work ethic, kindness, willingness to be involved in many varied organizations, and quiet determination will serve you well. I wish you the best of luck as you continue to shape the world.”  ~ Mrs. Kris McCoy, Middle/High School Librarian

“Kalea is one of those students who simply leaves you in awe. She challenges herself by taking the most rigorous courses offered and still finds time to be deeply involved in school activities. With her quiet demeanor, Kalea leads by example, showing others the power of hard work, humility, and grace. As this year’s FBLA President, she is already demonstrating exceptional leadership, always putting others first and leading with a true servant’s heart. Kalea has an ‘old soul’ that shines through in the way she carries herself, and I could not be more proud of the young woman she is. Her future is sure to be as bright as the impact she has already made here.” ~ Mrs. Valerie Martin, Middle/High School Business Teacher

“Kalea is an incredibly hard worker, focused, driven, and a true leader by example.” ~ Mrs. Rachael Schroeder, Reading Specialist

“Kalea is such a positive influence among her peers.  She has served as a peer leader for Sources of Strength, where she consistently brings positivity, creative ideas, and encouragement to those around her.  Kalea leads by example, showing kindness, empathy, and a genuine willingness to listen, which helps create a supportive and uplifting environment.  Her contributions not only inspire her peers but also strengthen the overall sense of community and connection within the group.  Her strong work ethic and determination to succeed ensure that her future will be bright, and she is sure to achieve great things as she continues to grow and pursue her goals.” ~ Mrs. Dani Robb, School Social Worker

“‘Being positive isn’t pretending everything is good. It’s seeing the good in everything.’ This sentiment perfectly captures Kalea Biddick whose warm heart and radiant smile light up every room she enters. Known for her kind nature and steady encouragement, Kalea has a natural ability to mentor others, offering guidance and support with genuine care. Her willingness to go the extra mile, whether in the classroom, in front of the many clubs she leads, or in everyday interactions, sets her apart as someone who not only strives for her own success but also lifts others along the way. Kalea’s positivity is contagious, making her a true inspiration to her peers. Your ability to read the room and know when others are a true gift. Continue to change the world, Sweet Girl!” ~ Mrs. Kristin Staver, High School Media Teacher

“Kalea has always been a hardworking student that demonstrates great respect for her classmates and her teachers.  She has worked hard while at Mineral Point High School to create a welcoming environment with plenty of activities to be involved in.  She is generally the first to volunteer for a special project, and always holds up her end of the bargain to see these commitments through.  Kalea does not only shine in extracurriculars, though.  She can often be seen helping students around her with concepts they don´t understand from class, offering her own time and knowledge to promote the success of others.  Kalea has been a pleasure to teach, and will undoubtedly go on to do great things.” ~ Mr. Ryne Ponsler, High School Spanish Teacher

“Kalea, you have accomplished so many amazing things during your time here, with the second biggest being the incredible achievement of earning an associate degree before graduating high school – a first for any MP student! I know how much work, patience, and drive that has taken, and you should feel so proud of yourself. Your passion for business and international studies shows how big your dreams are, and I have no doubt you’ll achieve them.  But your greatest accomplishment is truly your character. As you are a friend to all, you lead every day with kindness, warmth, and inclusion.  We will miss your presence in the hallways next year, but I know you are more than ready for greatness!” ~ Mrs. Erika Brunson, Middle/High School Counselor

Addison Burris

Addison Burris is a Mineral Point High School Senior excited to be named Kiwanis’ September Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Morgan and Andy Burris and the oldest of three siblings.  Her sister, Emmie, is a Sophomore, and her brother, Kelby, is a 7th Grader. A lifelong resident of Mineral Point, Addie is proud to be a Pointer and will celebrate her 18th birthday next month.

Academics have always been a priority for Addie. She has earned High Honor Roll every semester and was recognized with the Sophomore Student of the Year Award. Her dedication led to induction into the National Honor Society, an achievement she is especially proud of. She was also named Academic All-State in volleyball and represented her class as a Homecoming Candidate during her Junior year.

In addition to her studies, Addie has been active in many clubs and activities, including Key Club, Skills USA, Pointer Media, and Blue Crew. This past school year, Addie earned 1st place in cosmetology at the Skills USA State Competition, which qualified her for Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia — an unforgettable experience she will always cherish. With Pointer Media, she helps set up and livestream the daily Wake Up Mineral Point News, bringing announcements to students and staff each morning.

Addie’s school spirit shines through athletics as well. She has played volleyball since her Freshman year and was part of the 2024 Mineral Point Volleyball team that went to state for the first time in school history. In the winter, she manages wrestling, where she takes stats and videos for the team.  She was part of the 2025 Wrestling State Champion Team. These experiences have given her lasting memories and strong connections with teammates, coaches, and friends.

Outside of school, Addie has worked as a babysitter since middle school and more recently as a math tutor, where she loves helping kids understand new concepts. This past summer, she also earned her Certified Nursing Assistant license through Southwest Technical College. Alongside CNA training, she has completed several college-level courses.

After graduation, Addie plans to pursue a Nursing Associate Degree at Southwest Technical College with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse in either an emergency room or an assisted living facility. She also maintains a passion for cosmetology and hopes to use that skill in her life to help people feel confident, beautiful, and cared for.

Addie is grateful for the support of her family, friends, teachers, and the Mineral Point community. She wants to thank her parents for always showing up and encouraging her to be her best. They supported her in her education, sports, extracurricular activities, and her life outside of school. She also appreciates her siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins for their love and support, even when they try to embarrass her. She wants to thank Mr. Matt Austin, Mrs. Erika Brunson, and the Mineral Point teachers who have guided her throughout her school years and helped prepare her for her future. Mineral Point holds a special place in her heart, and Addie will always be a proud Pointer.

Addie wants to congratulate Kalea Biddick for being named September’s Student of the Month. She also wants to congratulate Kalea on being a Queen Candidate for this year’s Homecoming. Kalea is the hardest-working, academically knowledgeable, and sweetest person. She wants to wish Kalea the best of luck for the rest of her Senior year and the years following. Finally, Addie thanks the Kiwanis for this recognition and the opportunity to be celebrated.

“It’s hard to believe Addie Burris is a Senior!  When I think back to her as a Kindergartner, I see a kind, friendly girl with lots of shy smiles. She took her time with her work and always paid attention to detail. Addie, it’s been fun to watch you grow into the fine young lady you are today!  Congratulations on becoming Student of the Month and best wishes for a wonderful Senior year!” ~ Mrs. Jill McGuire, Kindergarten Teacher

“It so impresses me how you tackle new opportunities that push you out of your comfort zone. Your courage, determination, and willingness to try new things (even though you may not want to) make you stand out and make a positive impact on everyone around you. You are an inspiration, and I wish you the best in all of the opportunities that will be coming your way.” ~ Mrs. Kris McCoy, Middle/High School Librarian

“Addie was such a joy to have in class! She always gave her very best effort and set a wonderful example for those around her. Not only did she lead academically, but she also showed responsibility by turning in her work on time and making sure it was always done with care and quality. Her hard work and positive attitude never went unnoticed, and it was a true pleasure to watch her shine. I have no doubt Addie has a very bright future ahead!” ~ Mrs. Valerie Martin, Middle/High School Business Teacher

“5th Grade Addie was a sweet and kind student, and she has now grown into the delightful Addie we know today. Her thoughtful nature allowed her to observe others and situations and take in the information before acting or reacting. She empathetically noticed others and helped them whenever possible. Addie sometimes seems quiet and meek, but when she believes in something, she can be strong and fierce. She stands for what she believes in and for the good of others. Addie knows how to have fun and work hard. Her smile is contagious and brings much joy to all who meet her. Keep being you, Addie! Your future awaits!” ~ Mrs. Laurie Heimsoth, 5th Grade Teacher

“Congratulations to Addison Patricia on being named Student of the Month! I am so proud of her and all of her accomplishments. Not only is she incredibly smart, but she is also one of the kindest humans I know. I’ve had the privilege of knowing Addie since elementary school, and in that time she has always shown what it means to be kind-hearted and selfless. She consistently puts others before herself, has the most positive attitude, and is the definition of a true team player. She carries herself as a teammate in this same way, always lifting others up and leading by example. I am honored and grateful to know such an amazing young woman and to have had the chance to coach her. Good luck in your future, Addison–you will do great things!” ~ Mrs. Amanda Ingwell, EC/4K Teacher

“Despite the challenges of 2020, it also provided some of my most cherished moments in teaching, particularly during Zoom classes with Addie and her trusty sidekick, Bernie. Even as a 7th Grader, Addie displayed remarkable maturity that truly set her apart. That maturity continues today as her organization, willingness to ask questions, and quiet confidence have been incredibly effective in building trust among her peers. Congratulations, Addie, I can’t wait to see how you change the world!” ~ Mrs. Michelle Rielly, Middle School English Teacher

“Edwin Louis Cole wisely observed, ‘Maturity comes not with age but with the acceptance of responsibility.’ This quote beautifully reflects the character of Addie Burris, who consistently demonstrates maturity through her dependability and strength of character. With a positive attitude that brightens every environment, and a tireless work ethic that inspires those around her, Addie stands out as someone others naturally look up to. Her dedication to Pointer Media has been a huge factor in the program’s ongoing success. Addie is a true role model who shows that hard work and positivity are the foundation of lasting success. Thank you for always being a ‘go to girl,’ Miss Addie! This quality will continue to open doors for you in your bright future!” ~ Mrs. Kristin Staver, High School Media Teacher

“I have been lucky enough to have Addie Burris work with me as a manager the past four years for our wrestling team, as well as being able to work with her from time to time in class as a middle schooler. The kid that I have worked with has grown into the young, responsible lady that you see today. She is my go to for everything behind the scenes for wrestling. She is the one I can count on to do the things necessary for me to be able to focus on wrestling. She has a positive attitude and her work ethic is one of the reasons she is being honored by you today. I am proud to have this young lady continue to be a part of this team and see her continue to grow into a productive, positive member of our community for years to come.” ~ Mr. Curtis Fiedler, Middle School Special Education Teacher and Head Wrestling Coach

“Addie, I am so proud of the person you are and the way you always show kindness and care for others. You are a leader in and out of the classroom, and put others needs before your own. Earning your CNA this summer not only shows your intelligence but also your dedication to serving people in meaningful ways, and it’s inspiring to see you discover a true love for nursing. At the same time, being one of only two Skills USA national qualifiers in cosmetology shows your incredible talent and versatility. You have such a bright future ahead of you, and I want you to always believe in yourself – you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to. Enjoy your Senior year!” ~ Mrs. Erika Brunson, Middle/High School Counselor
