Mineral Point High School Junior Matthew Goninen was chosen to attend the Senate Scholar Program, which is an elite program designed to challenge Wisconsin’s best students.

Matthew represented Senate District 17, which is represented by Howard Marklein, and spent the week in Madison, along with other high school juniors and seniors from around the state.

During the week, Matthew was introduced to many facets of the legislative process. He met with legislative support agencies, legislative staff, the press, lobbyists, senators, representatives, the First Lady, Supreme Court justices, as well as many others who work within the state government. Matthew also attended the Governor’s 2024 State of the State Address.

The week’s events culminated in a Senate Scholar committee hearing on a bill that Matthew helped draft. Matthew did an outstanding job representing Mineral Point!
