Congratulations to the Mineral Point FFA Livestock Judging team of Brady Palzkill, Danny Pittz, Logan Schmitz, and Morgan Vondra for winning the State FFA Livestock Judging contest on Friday, April 27th.
Brady placed 1st, Danny 5th, Logan 9th, and Morgan 25th as individuals. They will move on to National competition in October at the National FFA Convention. This contest involved 11 different livestock classes, grading of animals, and oral reasons. There were 40 teams at the state competition totaling 160 individuals. Congratulations on being state champions.
For the livestock team, this is the 5th state winning and national qualifying team in the last 18 years. Previous years were 2001, 2005, 2011, and 2016. The livestock teams from Mineral Point have qualified for state 18 straight years, finishing first five times, runner up five times, and never finishing below 15th in the state.
The Wildlife team of Brady Roberts, Jacob Moellers, Larry Steffes, and Blake Wendhausen placed 11th at State FFA Career Development Events with Brady placing 2nd individually at state. This contest is based on wildlife identification and a test on wildlife knowledge. Again, this is a very tightly scored contest with only a few points separating each team and individual. The wildlife team has qualified three straight years in this event, with Brady and Jacob being members of those teams all three years.
Congratulations to the two teams and good luck to the livestock team as they prepare for Nationals in October in Indianapolis at the National FFA Convention!
