Mineral Point High School is proud to announce its top scholars for the Class of 2018: Valedictorian Jacob Wedig and Salutatorian Hans Miller.

Graduation is set for Friday, May 25 at 7 pm in the high school gym.

Jacob Wedig

Jacob Wedig has been named the Valedictorian of the Mineral Point High School Class of 2018.

Jacob was raised in the City of Mineral Point his entire life. He is the son of Peter and Kim Wedig. He has two younger brothers named Jared and Jaxon and has one younger sister named Jenna. Jenna is a high school Sophomore, Jared is an 8th grader, and Jaxon is a 3rd grader, all of which attend the Mineral Point School District.

Jacob is very involved in his school and other activities, his favorite of which was being the captain of the Dodge-Point varsity soccer team. Jacob has played for the soccer team for four years now. He is also the vice president of the Skills USA club and has attended the club’s state conference the past two years. In addition, he participates in Dodge-Point track and field, math team, Spanish club, Future Business Leaders of America, and is a member of National Honor Society. Jacob was also honored with the title of Student of the Year for the Sophomore class and October Student of the Month Senior year.

Jacob has put the value of hard work in his everyday life. He currently works at the Pit Stop and has been there for three years now. He also mows lawns and other various tasks for many different employers. These year-round jobs outside of school have given him the necessary attitude to understand what is coming in the future. He puts pride in his work to save money up to pay for his later education and to understand what it is like to work for something yourself.

Outside of school, Jacob enjoys learning about maintaining and fixing cars, fishing with his brothers, and kayaking with his friends. He also enjoys exercising and playing sports outside with friends.

After high school, he plans to attend UW-Platteville to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.

Hans Miller

Hans Miller has been named the Salutatorian of the Mineral Point High School Class of 2018.

Hans arrived at Mineral Point in the summer of 2016, a Junior in high school. Since then, he has embraced Mineral Point High School and the community as academic and social blessings.

In his seventeen years, Hans has lived in many places. He has lived in Hunan, China, and central Maine, and northern Wisconsin. Mineral Point is now home for Hans.

More than anywhere else, Mineral Point has given Hans the ideal balance of academic, athletic, and social activities. Here, he studies with the guidance of teachers, and he played soccer with the varsity Dodge-Point team, and he bonds with many friends who have accepted him as an eager arrival. Indeed, Hans is grateful for the warmth with which he has been accepted and embraced here as a student, teammate, and friend.

Here, Hans qualified for the varsity soccer team, National Honor Society, September Student of the Month Senior year, Student of the Year for the Junior class, and he was elected vice-president of the Class of 2018.

Although he is not yet certain, at present Hans believes he will explore a career in medicine. He will welcome the possibility to study at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Hans has two dynamic and wonderful younger sisters: Sophie is ten years old and Heidi is six years old. Sophie and Heidi add a bright and happy chemistry to his life at home.
