Mineral Point Future Business Leaders of America members Matt Baker, Trevor Ross, Leon Gehlen and Heather Bennett traveled to the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, WI along with 2500 FBLA members from around the state to compete at FBLA State Leadership Conference on April 13 -14.
The two day conference had workshops and tours for members to attend to increase their business knowledge as well as compete in business events. Students were able to attend business tours of facilities like Kwik Trip Headquarters, River Front Care Facility, Altra Credit Union, and AVS marketing Group.
Workshop choices such as Career Exploration; Tips for a Successful College Student; You and the World of Work; and Fame, Fortune or Failure were offered for students to attend when not on a business tour or competing in an event.
In addition, members participated in a scavenger hunt using an app called Goose Chase where they could complete missions and compete against other schools for prizes.
While at the conference students were able to show their participation in events and earn badges by tracking their attendance at tours, workshops and events using credly.com.
Matt Baker competed in the Business Law event. Trevor Ross, Leon Gehlen and Heather Bennett competed in the Marketing Team event. The competitors finished strong in their events, but outside of the placement.
State Leadership Conference was a great learning experience for the Mineral Point FBLA members. The group’s advisor is Kipalee Bakken.
