Quotable: “My educational philosophy revolves around a student-centered classroom that allows students to engage in project-based learning. Through this learning style, students have the opportunity to engage with topics they are interested in and create meaningful experiences. As an ELA teacher, it is my responsibility to create situations for students where they need to think critically. By engaging students in project-based learning and activities that require critical thinking, these students will become better problem solvers and will be more prepared for the workplace or further education. I am passionate about providing access to all students for success in my classroom regardless of ability level by scaffolding and through varied strategies.
My interest in traveling will be an essential aspect that will contribute to my success. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have had the opportunity to go to Crandon, Wisconsin, for an American Indians studies institute; and I have also traveled to Mississippi twice to assist in schools and after-school programs. I also arranged a visit to Lynde and Harry Bradley Technology and Trade School in Milwaukee to experience an urban school prior to my internship placement with James Madison Academic Campus. These experiences will benefit my students because I will be able to bring in personal experiences to our studies.
My leadership experience will be my most valuable trait that I will bring to the classroom. While at UW-Platteville, I was honored with an Excellence in Leadership Award. I have this award because of my ability to empower others. In my classroom, I will empower students to lead through project-based learning and by giving them a voice in what they want to learn.”
