The Mineral Point Unified School District was honored by the Wisconsin School Public Relations Association (WSPRA) with three awards for its work in school communications between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024.

#PointerNation has now earned 24 WSPRA Awards since the fall of 2015.

WSPRA showcased the Spectrum Awards at its annual fall conference November 14 in Wisconsin Dells.

Spectrum Awards recognize high-quality school communication and engagement efforts by or on behalf of Wisconsin school districts. This year, this statewide competition honored over 80 school districts and CESAs with awards.

Mineral Point earned the maximum of three Spectrum Awards which were accepted by Communications Director, and WSPRA Immediate Past President, Joelle Doye:

Awards of Excellence

  • Raised Here, Stayed Here: Staff Appreciation (Social Media Campaign)
  • State Boys Basketball Champs (Social Media Campaign)

Award of Merit

  • Students of the Month (Special Purpose Publication/Project), a joint effort with the Mineral Point Kiwanis

“The dedication and creativity in these projects are shining examples of the exceptional work happening in school public relations,” Emily DeBaker, Wisconsin School Public Relations Association President said. “Recognizing and celebrating this amazing work not only honors district achievements but also inspires others to continue telling the powerful stories of our schools and communities. We thank these hard working School PR pros for setting the standard and reminding us all of the impact great communication can have.”

WSPRA’s Spectrum Awards were judged by members of other school public relations associations in 20 different states, from New York to California. All entries were judged on a 30-point scale in six areas: goals and objectives, research and planning, execution and evaluation, results, language, and design.

Past President’s Award

As WSPRA Immediate Past President, Mineral Point Communications Director Joelle Doye was able to present her Past President’s Award and is pictured honoring Superintendent Mitch Wainwright and District Administrative Assistant Angie Schubert.

“I’m firm in my belief that there may not be a single more important factor in success as a school communicator than the relationship you have with those in your district office, and I’m also aware that not every school communicator is as fortunate as I have been,” said Joelle. “Any success I’ve had is a direct reflection of the support they have given me and the belief they have had in me, even when I didn’t necessarily believe in myself.”

Years of Service Award

Joelle was honored by WSPRA for 10 years of service to the School PR profession at the conclusion of the 2023-24 school year.

WSPRA was chartered in 1967 and is a state affiliate of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA). The mission of WSPRA is to expand the capacity of its members to provide effective communication management for the purpose of strengthening educational opportunities for all students.
