The Mineral Point School Board held its regular monthly meeting Monday night.

— The Board began its meeting by recognizing the following accomplishments: Valedictorian and Salutatorians, Herb Kohl Teacher Fellows, Girls Basketball Academic All-State, Boys Basketball Academic All-State, Boys Basketball All-State, and State Boys Basketball Champions. — The Board unanimously approved (with Bergstrom and Skelding absent) the addition of Pointer Kids Club for summer. This is a daycare program. Registration information will be sent soon to families of students who will be in K-5th grade for the 2024-25 school year, and hirings for staff will be posted. (Go to the 33 minute, 30 second mark)

— The Board unanimously approved (with Bergstrom, Skelding, and Harris absent) the retirement notice of Judy Pelton (Middle School Instructional Assistant), effective at the end of the 2023-24 school year. (Go to the two hour, 16 minute mark)

— The Board approved by a 3-2 vote (with Dunn and Heisner voting no and Bergstrom and Skelding absent) teacher contracts for the 2024-25 school year with a CPI increase of 4.12%, plus a step on the compensation model for a successful performance evaluation. Discussion was had around a looming budget deficit and likely forthcoming operational referendum, balanced with the Board’s priority of recruiting and retaining excellent staff. — The Board unanimously approved (with Bergstrom and Skelding absent) the substitute teacher salary schedule for the 2024-25 school year at the same rate that was used for the 2023-24 school year: Individual Daily Rate $125; After 10 days & thereafter $150; Long-Term $200.
