The School Board held its regular monthly meeting Monday and discussed many items to start the school year.

An update was given on the construction progress at the elementary. (Go to the 24 minute mark of the video). 

HSR, the architect firm, plans a building walk through September 15. Kraemer Brothers’ trailer has left the upper parking lot, so things are winding down.

Superintendent Mitch Wainwright reminded everyone October 22 is the contract deadline, so there will be some additional work going on to wrap the project up prior to that date.

Other business:

— Recognized Malea Aschliman and Addie Ryser for winning first place in the statewide Click Youth Media Challenge for their Mental Health Week video. (This begins the meeting video)

— The Board heard an update on the first few weeks of school from administration. (Go to the one hour, ten minute mark)

— The Board heard a COVID-19 update from administration to start the school year. (Go to the 40 minute mark)

— Superintendent Wainwright presented preliminary enrollment numbers for the 2021-22 school year. September 17 will be the 3rd Friday count, which is used for state funding enrollment purposes, so numbers will be more solidified after this week. (Go to the 50 minute mark)

— Superintendent Wainwright presented his monthly budget update. (Go to the one hour, seven minute mark) 

— The Board unanimously approved the annual Seclusion & Restraint Report. The law requires each school (the principal or a designee) to report the data annually to the school board a report on the number of incidents of seclusion and physical restraint in the previous year; the total number of students involved in the incidents; and the total number of students with disabilities involved in the incidents. The Act requires the information be broken down by the school. (Go to the one hour, 18 minute, 15 second mark)

— The Board unanimously approved the credit card statement and bills payable. (Go to the one hour, 21 minute mark)

— The Board approved by a 5-2 vote (with Steffes and Sullivan voting no) a purchase in excess of $5000 (wrestling singlet and workout gear). The items are in the budget and on a five year replacement rotation. (Go to the one hour, 28 minute mark)

— Following closed session, unanimously approved the hiring of Merlin Larsen, part time elementary custodian, and the resignation of Andy Palzkill, middle/high school counselor. Approved the hiring of Erika Brunson by a 6-0-1 vote (with Sullivan abstaining) as middle/high school counselor.

— The next regular meeting will be held Monday, October 11 at 6:30 pm.
