I am thankful that I have the privilege to live in this community, and work for this school district. While I am not a native of Mineral Point, I have lived here for over half of my life. I have come to know that this community is open to a wide range of ideas and beliefs, and have been accepted into what I would call a second family.
Mineral Point is a proud community with a long tradition of historic importance and academic excellence. Generation after generation have sent their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren through this school system. Those people have gone off to get an advanced education, fight wars, or straight into the workforce and have been successful no matter what the challenge has been. We respect everyone’s decision as it is theirs to make, and support each other when it is needed. This support will be very evident as we approach graduation time. I am always amazed at the number of scholarships our students can apply for and receive. This does not happen in every other school district, and is just one example of how Pointers support education.
If you pause for just a minute, I wonder what the first graduating class from Mineral Point would think of their school? One hundred and forty years ago, the two graduates were probably excited and nervous for what would come next. That will not be any different this year when this senior class walks across the stage. Two other similarities would be how much the community cares for the students and the realization of how important a good education is. We are lucky to have both in Mineral Point.
