At the regular June meeting, the School Board unanimously approved (with Bob Janetka absent) several new hires for the 2022-23 school year. #PointerNation will welcome:

— Angela Bremmer, Assistant Bookkeeper

— Carrie Brinkman, Middle School & Middle/High Athletic Administrative Assistant

— Allison Keller, Elementary Music Teacher

— Shelby Sporle, Pupil Services Administrative Assistant

These hires were made following closed session.

— The Board began its meeting by recognizing several groups who have achieved state-level success recently including:

The Board also honored the 2021-22 school year retirees (Alf Jacobson, Marsha Kjelland, Deb Molle, Roger Palzkill, Kelly Riechers, Elaine Schwartz, and Sandy Weitzel).

— Superintendent Mitch Wainwright presented his monthly budget comparison. (Go to the 27 minute, 15 second mark)

— The Board discussed the idea of regularly scheduled committee meetings. (Go to the 28 minute, 30 second mark)

— The Board unanimously approved (with Janetka absent) the English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum for the elementary school, a purchase over $10,000. ESSER funds are being used for this purchase. (Go to the 41 minute, 30 second mark)

— Unanimously approved (with Janetka absent) a line of credit with Farmers Savings Bank for the 2022-23 school year at a 2% fixed rate. The line of credit is for short term borrowing needs in between state aid payments. (Go to the one hour, 22 minute, 30 second mark)

— Unanimously approved (with Janetka absent) the 2022-23 school year fee schedule as presented. The fee schedule will be sent out to families closer to registration.

Lunches are going up 10 cents and there is a competitive increase in substitute teacher pay as well.

— Unanimously approved (with Janetka absent) the budget amendments as presented. (Go to the one hour, 36 minute, 45 second mark)

— Unanimously approved (with Janetka absent) the 2022-23 preliminary budget. This allows the district to begin to make purchases to prepare for the upcoming school year. The final budget will be approved this fall. Currently, there is a deficit of approximately $15,000 but Superintendent Wainwright believes the final budget for approval this fall will be much closer to balanced due the cost of new hires replacing retirees with decades of experience.
