Statement from Mineral Point Unified School District and Board of Education
It is with extremely heavy hearts the Mineral Point Unified School District and Board of Education share that Mr. Larry Steffes, a dedicated member of our School Board, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021.
Mr. Steffes was first elected to the Board in 2010 and was currently our longest tenured Board member. He faithfully served the students and schools of Mineral Point, seeing the District through times of great change and growth.
“Larry Steffes was committed to ensuring that all students received a quality education. It was also important that he represented all stakeholders during his twelve years as a Board Member for Mineral Point,” said Superintendent Mitch Wainwright. “He leaves a void on our Board, and our hearts go out to his family during this time.”
During his time on the Board, Mr. Steffes held leadership positions as a former President and was the current Treasurer. A graduate of MPHS himself, he continued to live, serve, and raise his beloved family in the community that meant so much to him.
“Our hearts are broken at the news of this loss,” shared Board President Aaron Dunn. “Larry was a strong supporter of Mineral Point Schools, and we will miss his presence on the Board and in our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, and family.”

We hope the entire Mineral Point community will join the District in keeping the Steffes family in their thoughts and prayers. Support services at school are available for any students and staff in need.
