The Mineral Point School Board held a brief meeting July 29. (Scroll past the video for more article text)

Business included:

— Superintendent Mitch Wainwright stated the annual audit by Johnson Block has been completed. Given the end of year surplus, the district recommended committing $175,000 to Fund 46 and the remaining to fund balance. This was approved unanimously with Lindsey absent and Steffes absent at the time.

Fund 46 is a capital maintenance fund. The district has been putting some monies into this fund for the past four years. Beginning July 2020, the district can start using money from this fund, if it chooses. There would be approximately $689,000 in Fund 46. (This begins the meeting video)

— The Board unanimously approved (with Lindsey and Steffes absent) the annual Academic Standards Notice. It can be found here: https://mineralpointschools.org/wp-content/uploads/19-20-Standards.pdf

— The Board unanimously approved (with Lindsey absent) the employee handbook. (Steffes had now arrived to the meeting) Go to the 13 minute mark

— The Board unanimously approved (with Lindsey absent) two purchases in excess of $5,000 — the first being annual elementary workbooks for K-5 math at a cost of $10,595.69 and the second being 70 Junior World History textbooks at a cost of $8,392. The books being replaced have a 2001 copyright date. (Go to the 24 minute mark)

— The Board unanimously approved (with Lindsey absent) nominating Military Ridge Veterinary Service, Shake Rag Alley, and Sleepy Valley Kennels for the annual Wisconsin Association of School Boards Business Honor Roll. The three will be recognized at a meeting this fall. (Go to the 29 minute, 30 second mark)

— The Board unanimously approved (with Lindsey absent) the hiring of Alexandra Driftmier as Elementary School Counselor. (Go to the 34 minute, 15 second mark)

— The Board unanimously approved (with Lindsey absent) the resignation of Cait Finley, Instructional Assistant, as well as unanimously approving to post for three Instructional Assistants (one is a one-year only position). (Go to the 36 minute mark)

— The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Monday, August 19 at 6:30 pm.
