By the end of the year, students will be able to read and comprehend literature [informational texts] in the grades 4–5 text complexity band proficiently. Students write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view, informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas clearly, and narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using descriptive details. In mathematics students focus on three critical areas: developing understanding with multi-digit multiplication and dividing to find quotients; developing an understanding of fraction equivalence, addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, and multiplication of fractions by whole numbers; understanding geometric figures having parallel sides, perpendicular sides, particular angle measures, and symmetry.
