One of our two school district goals is community engagement. Engagement within the context of education can be defined as developing trust and building relationships between home, school, and community. Of these two tenets of engagement, trust is a prerequisite for creating a school culture that recognizes and embraces family involvement.
A powerful way of fostering trust between home and school is through listening. We want to know what is working for your child(ren) as well as where we could make improvements. That is why we invite interested family members to join us for monthly coordinating council gatherings.
Our coordinating council team is comprised of staff, parents, and myself. We discuss many building business issues, including family events at school and addressing specific classroom needs. We also seek to educate this team both from a parent’s perspective and from the staff’s point of view. These conversations can be fruitful and have a real impact on the learning experience of students.
If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, we will be hosting our first informal gathering on Thursday, September 20. It will take place in the LMC (school library) once students are dismissed at the end of the day. If you have questions about our coordinating council, I can be reached at 608-987-0711. Thank you for your support!
