Any families who do not reside within in the boundaries of the Mineral Point Unified School District may apply to have their child(ren) attend school in #PointerNation for the 2025-26 school year.

Online application is recommended at https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment

What is Open Enrollment?

The inter-district public school open enrollment program allows families to apply for their children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they reside.

Who can apply?

Any Wisconsin resident in 4K to grade 12 may apply to attend a non-resident school district under the open enrollment program. However, a child may transfer to a nonresident school district for early childhood education or 4K only if the child’s resident school district offers the same type of program and only if the child is eligible for that program in the resident school district.

When can families apply?

The regular open enrollment application period for the upcoming 2025-26 school year runs February 3 – April 30. Online application is recommended at https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment

The regular open enrollment application period for the current 2024-25 school year has ended. However, families can still apply for open enrollment using the alternative application procedure. For more information, please visit: https://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/forms/pdf/f9421_Eng.pdf

What openings are available for Open Enrollment?

Each January, by State statute, school boards are required to designate how many additional open enrollment spots they will offer to non-residents for the following school year. For Mineral Point in 2025-26, the maximum of additional open enrolled regular education students accepted would be:

4K: 9 students

Kindergarten: 5 students

1st Grade: 1 student

2nd Grade: 13 students

3rd Grade: 1 student

4th Grade: 0 students

5th Grade: 14 students

6th Grade: 3 students

7th Grade: 5 students

8th Grade: 1 student

9th-12th Grades: unlimited

For special education, caseloads are at capacity in all areas other than speech and language only, for which four open enrollment spots are available.

The District closes Open Enrollment at certain grade levels, and for certain programs, where it would be necessary to hire additional staff.
