Mineral Point High School is proud to formally announce its top scholars for the graduating Class of 2015–Valedictorian Richard Haase and Salutatorian Joshua Berg.
The two were honored at the SWAL academic banquet at Boscobel in March and will speak at the commencement ceremony Friday, May 22 at 7 pm in the gym.
Richard Haase
Richard is the son of Richard and Tamara Haase. He has two sisters, Mariah and Ariana. He will be the second in his family to attend and graduate from a Mineral Point School.
Richard has participated in Dodge-Point soccer during all four years of high school and was varsity captain this year. He has also been involved in Mock Trial, Science Club, Youth Group, and band throughout high school.
Outside of school, Richard enjoys practicing soccer, playing piano, and hanging out with his friends.
After graduating high school, Richard plans on attending Edgewood College and pursuing a major in either Computer Science or General Music.
Joshua Berg
Joshua is the son of Paul and Sarah Berg. He has two younger siblings, Megan and Matthew, who are in eighth grade. He has lived in Mineral Point his whole life.
Joshua has participated in Skills USA, Band, Cross Country, the musical “Annie,” and Soccer. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. In addition, he has traveled to Redruth, Cornwall last month as part of the student exchange program.
There are also activities outside of school Joshua has been involved in including Dodgeville Ice Wolves hockey, Badger Boys State, and the Mineral Point Churches’ Youth Group. Other hobbies include playing the guitar and piano.
For the past four years, Joshua has worked for Jim and Cheryl Smeja doing various jobs, such as landscaping. He has also worked at the Jones Mansion by assisting guests with their baggage and art tools. He has also mowed for Bob Oberhauser at Bec Controls and worked for Lisa Hay at High Street Sweets.
After high school, Joshua plans to attend UW-Madison and major in Biology.
Both Richard and Joshua were honored as Kiwanis Students of the Month earlier this year.
