Some members of the MP Trap Team

The Mineral Point Trap Shooting Team will again be heading to the State Tournament this coming weekend.

The state individual and team competition will be held Saturday at the WTA Shooting Complex in the town of Rome near Wisconsin Rapids.

Pointers who will be competing at state this weekend include: Kaleb Pilling, Brady Roberts, Owen Stephenson, Wyatt Evans, Larry Steffes, Martina Steffes, Chris Ley, Garrett Faull, Joe Ripp, Uriah Ottoway, Joey Dolphin, and Jacob Moellers. They will be joined on the MP team by Ryan Welsh of Darlington and Braden Abney of Gratiot. The team is coached by Randy Ley, Bob Ley, and Don Dobson.

Mineral Point competed in Conference 3 of the Wisconsin State High School Clay Target League and finished first as a team. Results include:

Conference 3Boys: 1. Jack Pendergrass, Drummond, 23.30; 2. Will Johnson, Potosi, 22.90; 3. Hunter Strenke, Clayton, 22.10. Girls: 1. Katie Klas, Potosi, 21.60; 2. Haley Jackson, Clayton, 17.60; 3. Minetta VanDoom, Drummond, 16.90. Team: 1. Mineral Point, 2856; 2. Drummond, 2635; 3. Potosi, 2378.5.

Top Pointers in Conference 3 include: Boys: 4. Owen Stephenson, 21.70; 5. Ryan Welsh, 21.40; 8. Joe Ripp, 20.80. Girls: 5. Martina Steffes, 15.50.

If an athlete hits 25 targets in a round, they receive a 25 Straight League patch to apply to their shooting gear.

Pointers Joey Dolphin and Owen Stephenson achieved this during Week 4.

Boscobel High School’s Drew Brown led the Wisconsin State High School Clay Target League in regular-season overall scoring average with an average score of 23.60 out of a possible 25.

The statewide girls individual scoring champion was Katie Klas of Potosi who averaged 21.60.
