The Mineral Point School Board met Monday evening to approve hirings for the 2016-17 school year.

Before going into closed session, the Board heard from several members of the Elementary Interview Committee in favor of the nomination before the Board, Matt Renwick.

The group spoke to how impressed they were by Mr. Renwick’s accolades and success with literacy endeavors at his former school in the Wisconsin Rapids School District.

Following closed session, the Board voted to approve Matt Renwick as the new elementary principal, pending a salary being negotiated by the Superintendent Luke Francois. The vote was 6-0-1 with Glenn Kinch abstaining.

The Board also approved the hiring of Callie Gundlach as a 6-12th grade Cross Categorical Special Education teacher by a 6-0 vote. Member Jeff Basting had left the meeting for the evening.

Francois’ performance evaluation noted, overall, the Board is pleased with his performance. Francois said he takes the results seriously and will work to improve areas the Board didn’t rank as high as others.

The final item of the evening involved the approval of the Food Service contract for the 2016-17 school year and the board voted 5-0-1 to again use Taher. Member Lisa Hay abstained.

 

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is Monday, June 13 at 6:30 pm.
