CLASSES

Accounting: Accounting is a one year course that covers basic business financial statements. Along with this course, students may choose to have transcripted credit through Southwest Technical College.

Advanced Accounting: Advanced Accounting is the second couse of accounting at MPHS. Students may take this course for transcripted credit with Southwest Technical College. Note: This class is a whole credit and only available to seniors.

Advertising and Display: Advertising and Display is a class that will cover many aspects of how to display merchandise and why merchandise is displayed in specific areas. Students also learn about various types of promotions and the various types of advertising media. Expectations include the making of displays as well as designing advertisements. Note: This class is half a credit and is available for all high school students. Note: This class is a whole credit and only available to seniors.

Business and Information Technology: This class with provide an introduction to the two most popular used software programs businesses use (Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel). The course will go “in depth” with these programs and learn to use the tools not many people take advantage of. These programs will be used to create professional business documents, help students create “short-cuts” to produce reports and documents, and helps to improve correct typing accuracy and speed. Note: This class is half of a credit and is available to all high school students.

Business and Graphic Technology: This course includes an introduction to three software programs that businesses use (Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Publisher). Students will be able to go “in depth” with these programs and utilize skills many people don’t take advantage of. “Short-cuts” will be taught to help students with reports and documents. Note: This course is half a credit and available to all high school students.

Introduction to Business and Marketing: Intro to Business and Marketing is a course where students will be introduced to the most current practices of business ownership and management. Students will learn the necessary skills about how to manage a business through assessing consumer needs and wants, the sale of products and services, business ethics, marketing, advertising, human resources, and financial management. Note: This class is half a credit and only for grades 9-10.

Marketing and Sales: This introductory class is available to all high school students who are interested in the various aspects of marketing and selling products. This course uses hands-on techniques to teach the key points in how to be successful in the world of marketing. Also, this course will teach how to prepare for a job interview and learn the four-Ps of marketing: Product, price, promotion, and place. Note: This class is half of a credit.

Personal Finance: Personal Finance is a class that narrows down on the topic of how much the world revolves around money. It focuses on helping students make good financial decisions. From savings and checking accounts to credit and how it all works, these lessons are valuable for future reference. Also included in the class is the creation of a career portfolio. This allows students to make a resume, reference sheet, and they can experience the working life in job shadowing. Note: This class is half of a credit and only available for grades 11-12.
